In January 1981 Wesley Spees moved to Pembrokeshire and worked for local practices on a variety of projects in West Wales. In 1986 W A Spees Architects was established, and has undertaken a diverse range of commissions, from small extensions to new build projects of over £4million.

Since inception the practice has worked in the education, health, commercial, light industrial, private residential, hotel, and leisure sectors, providing a range of services including feasibility studies, master planning, full architectural design, contract administration, building surveying, CAD draughting, and modelling.

In the education sector, the practice has worked on the Technology and Information Centre at Pembrokeshire College, Haverfordwest; the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Unit at Sir Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest; the new classroom block at Tasker Milward School, Haverfordwest; the Key Skills Mezzanine, Fitness Centre, classroom and library extensions and the Merlin Theatre, Pembrokeshire College, Haverfordwest; and minor projects at Greenhill, Milford Haven, Portfield Special, and Sir Thomas Picton Schools for Pembrokshire County Council. The Merlin Theatre project for Pembrokeshire College received a special mention from the Civic Society.

In the health sector, work has included feasibility, building utilisation and project organisation studies and project planning for Pembrokeshire Health Authority, East Dyfed Health Authority and Ceredigion and Mid Wales NHS Trust. Building projects have included redevelopments and new buildings for Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest; the new building for Winch Lane Surgery, Haverfordwest; and alterations at Barlow House and Robert Street Surgeries, Milford Haven.

Work in the commercial sector has involved projects for pharmacies in Cardigan and Tenby; an automobile showroom for Greens Motors, Haverfordwest; a mixed used development including the Andrew Price Hairdressing Salon, Tenby; a mixed use development including SET, stationer, Haverfordwest; and ABC Self Storage facilities in London.

Projects undertaken by the practice in the light industrial sector have included industrial buildings for J Price, Joiner, Llanon, Pembrokeshire, Tom Goddard and Sons, Camrose, Pembrokeshire; aircraft hangers at Withybush Aerodrome, Haverfordwest for Cotton Limited/ Pembrokeshire County Council; and factory unit refurbishments at Honeyborough, Neyland for the WDA.

In the hotel and leisure sector the practice has undertaken master planning and building projects for the Hotel Mariners, Haverfordwest; alteration projects at Belmont House, Hereford (Grade I); alteration and extension projects at guest houses in Broadhaven and St Davids, Pembrokeshire; and alteration and refurbishments for holiday units at Rosemoor, Walwyns Castle. The bedroom extension project for the Hotel Mariners received a Civic Society commendation.

Recent projects include the new Leisure Centre, Fishguard; Site Planning Studies for New Healthcare Facilities at Aberaron, Cardigan, and Tregarron; Development and Development Control Plan Studies for Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest; Site Planning Studies for New Healthcare Facility, Tenby; Group Repair Schemes (External Refurbishments/Improvements) Hill and Horns Lanes, Haverfordwest; CAD draughting for BAe Systems (Land & Sea Systems) Ltd, Bristol, and several new build private dwellings and dwelling refurbishment/ conversion projects.
